I had the pleasure of spending this past week with my friend Stephanie while she was in New York for business. I bunked with Steph at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
While it was wonderful to spend so much time with a dear friend, it definitely threw my training for a loop. We went to dinner every night, my workout schedule was definitely lacking, and I suffered a moment of weakness called “girl scout cookie cake”, which I paid for the next day.
Don’t get me wrong… It wasn’t all bad! Besides my gigantic piece of cake, I packed all of my food for the week other than dinner and tried to order as healthy as possible. Stephanie was my gym buddy on Monday and Tuesday for what I’d consider abbreviated workouts, but still better than nothing. I woke up for a 2 mile run on Wednesday and 4 miles up through Central Park yesterday afternoon.
Running through the city has given me new appreciation for cardio. I forgot how nice it is to NOT run on a treadmill. While running through the streets of manhattan is eerily similar to fighting my way through the Buffalo Corporate Challenge or Turkey Trot, it was nothing short of invigorating.
So it’s Friday, and my bags are packed. Time to head back to Long Island and push a little harder this week. September show schedule here I come!
